What is the history of Raksha Bandhan?

The history of Raksha Bandhan is mainly celebrated in Hindu culture. This festival is mainly celebrated in North India . It is celebrated as sister tie rakhi on their brother`s right hand and it is marked that brothers give pledge to protect and take care of their sisters. As per Hindu culture the great Indian epic, Draupadi, wife of the Pandavas had torn the corner of her saree to prevent Lord Krishna`s bleeding wrist [as he has hurt himself by mistake].It is a Hindu festival that celebrates brotherhood. The first Raksha Bandhan was celebrated when Rani Karnavati, realized that she could not defend against Bahadur Shah, Sultan of Gujrat, she sent rakhi to emperor Humayun . The emperor according to rakhi sent,set off with his troops to defend Chittor . This festival is celebrated on a full-moon day of the hindu month of SAVAN [JULY/AUGUST]. This day is mainly for brother and sister, they wear new clothes. Sister put ‘tilak’ on their brother’s forehead and pray for their well being and long life. Brother offer gifts to their sisters and the whole family enjoy the festival. This festival is mainly marked as love and care of brother and sister.
